San Diego, Califonia ♥

San Diego Harbour Skyline

I recently visited California and it was absolutely amazing! Though getting there was very tiring, as the flight from Heathrow to San Diego, connecting in Philadelphia was just over 18 hours. So it was quite nice that our hotel the Rancho Bernardo Inn (in Rancho Bernardo town) was a nice, secluded and away from city traffic. Which allowed for lots of peaceful and indulgent sleep and visits to the spa. Additionally the hotel had a number of beautiful restaurants so there was never a boring meal.

The only downside to this beautiful scenic hotel was that it was a 30 minute drive to downtown San Diego. We actually did not know this when we arrived at the San Diego airport, we got a $90 taxi to the hotel; When an Uber was $22-$30. The reason why I mention price differences is that America is not as affordable as it used to be, since GBP fell due to brexit. So the last thing you want to do is waste money on travel when you could be having fun in The Gaslamp District or Ocean Beach with beautiful weather that ranged from 20°C to 28°C (during the day, and pretty mild in the evening). Keeping in mind this was still in winter!

Downtown San Diego itself was beautiful, it was hot and the people were so friendly. Though my favourite places were Balboa Park and The Gaslamp District. The latter was a beautiful quarter full of bars and restaurants spread across 4th, 5th and 6th street. With Horton Plaza Westfield mall on 4th street. In addition to Embarcadero Marina Park located at the end of the Gaslamp Quarter. Whereas Balboa Park was a surprise within itself.

I had a wonderful time in San Diego, though I would have to say that I preferred Los Angeles.

  2. Gosh, the photos are amazing. Looks lovely and warm too (I miss summer). But that is a long flight, I'd need a whole day in the spa to recover from that.
